I got this very thorough instruction / history book years ago and enjoyed reading it. In the intervening years, I'd forgotten a lot of the details, so gave it another sitting the other day. It's very comprehensive, and Rebecca Salter (here's her website - http://www.rebeccasalter.com/) goes into a lot of details about very specific things, correct names and titles of particular techniques or methods, and numerous ways of achieving general and niche effects.

I've just discovered that the author has some bits and pieces on YouTube (via the RA) which could well make for interesting viewing.
